Application of seismic supports and hangers

Seismic supports and hangers are facilities produced according to the mandatory provision 3.7.1 of GB50011-2001 "Code for Seismic Design of Buildings" (2008 edition): "Non structural components, including building non structural components and building ancillary mechanical and electrical equipment, themselves and their connections with the structural main body, should undergo seismic design." Seismic supports and hangers are a new thing in China, but have a long history in developed countries with frequent earthquakes, especially abroad.

The electromechanical seismic support and hanger system is a support system that is firmly connected to the pipeline, groove system, and equipment of the building structure that has been designed for seismic resistance, with seismic force as the main load. The original general meaning of the support and hanger system was a support system with gravity as the main load, and the settings of these two support systems are not repeated but complementary. The conclusion drawn by Huang Qiaojun from the Institute of Architecture at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, who simulated a sprinkler pipeline in a parking lot in Puli Town, Nantou County using a vibration table on an earthquake test bench, is that the displacement of each point in the pipeline with seismic support system installed is 5-10 times lower than that without seismic support, effectively improving the seismic performance of the pipeline system.

Principles for the Layout of Electrical Seismic Systems

  (1) The maximum lateral seismic spacing for rigid electrical conduit, trunking, and bridge shall not exceed 12m, and the maximum longitudinal seismic spacing shall not exceed 24m.

  (2) The maximum horizontal seismic spacing for non rigid material electrical conduit, trunking, and bridge shall not exceed 6m, and the maximum vertical spacing shall not exceed 12m.

  Principles of Seismic Calculation

The installation form and layout principles of seismic support and hanger systems are determined based on strict mechanical calculation results, and the calculation of seismic forces must meet the requirements of the specifications.

Application scope of seismic supports and hangers in this project

  (1) All pipelines larger than DN65mm; (2) All smoke control and exhaust system pipelines; (3) All circular air ducts with a diameter greater than 0.70m; (4) All rectangular air ducts with a cross-sectional area greater than 0.38m2; (5) Wire trays weighing 15kg/m or more; (6) All door shaped hangers. 1.2 Classification and Layout Principles

Seismic supports and hangers can provide sufficient protection for mechanical and electrical systems during earthquakes, and can be used to resist damage from horizontal and vertical seismic forces. According to the different mechanical and electrical systems protected, seismic supports and hangers can be divided into pipeline seismic systems, duct seismic systems, and electrical (including electrical conduit, trunking, and bridge) seismic systems.

Principles for the layout of pipeline seismic resistant systems

  (1) The lateral spacing requirements for seismic reinforcement of pipelines are: for rigid materials such as groove connected pipelines, welded steel pipes, brazed copper pipes, etc., the maximum horizontal hanger spacing shall not exceed 12m; for non rigid materials such as HDPE, the maximum horizontal hanger spacing shall not exceed 6m.

  (2) The longitudinal spacing requirements for seismic reinforcement of pipelines are: for rigid materials such as groove connected pipelines, welded steel pipes, brazed copper pipes, etc., the maximum spacing between longitudinal hangers shall not exceed 24m; for non rigid materials such as HDPE, the maximum spacing between transverse hangers shall not exceed 12m.

Principles for the layout of seismic resistant air duct systems

  (1) The maximum spacing between lateral seismic hangers for ordinary rigid ducts is 9 meters, and the maximum spacing between longitudinal seismic hangers for ordinary rigid ducts is 18 meters.

  (2) Lateral seismic hangers for fiberglass, plastic, and other non rigid material ducts, with a maximum spacing of 4.5m and a maximum longitudinal spacing of 9m.
